Leon was professionally trained at the University of Pretoria and obtained his B. Arch degree in 1998 to qualify as a professional architect (Pr. Arch). He has worked in Namibia for 3 years and in Ireland as a senior architect for 7.5 years before returning to South Africa to establish the architectural practice. He is a dedicated, passionate architect that focuses on the detail management and design of projects to ensure that all projects are delivered exactly to clients requirements.

INCEPTION
  1. Assist in developing a clear brief
  2. Attend the project initiation meetings
  3. Advise on the procurement policy for the project
  4. Advise on rights, constraints, consents and approvals
  5. Advise on the other consultants and services required
  6. Define the consultant’s scope of work and services
  7. Determine availability of data, drawings and plans relating to the project
  8. Provide necessary information within the agreed scope of the project to the other consultants
CONCEPT
  1. Agree the documentation programme with the principal consultant and the other consultants
  2. Attend design and consultants meetings
  3. Prepare concept design based on the client’s brief
  4. Consult with the other consultants and incorporate their input
  5. Discuss design concept with local authorities
  6. Clarify and confirm the project space norms to optimise functional and operational efficiency in terms of scale and relationships of areas
  7. Coordinate design interfaces with the other consultants
  8. Select general construction materials and intended finishes
  9. Provide information to the other consultants for suitable estimates of construction costs
  10. Prepare and submit presentation of the design concept to the client for approval
  11. Prepare and submit the site development plan to the local authority for approval where applicable
  12. Liaise, cooperate and provide necessary information to the client, principal consultant and other consultants
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
  1. Review the documentation programme with the principal consultant and the other consultants
  2. Attend design and consultants meetings
  3. Incorporate the client’s detailed requirements into building design
  4. Incorporate and coordinate the other consultant’s designs into building design
  5. Prepare design development drawings including draft technical details and outline specifications
  6. Review budget in conjunction with the other consultants
  7. Liaise, cooperate and provide necessary information to the client, principal consultant and other consultants
  8. Obtain project specific requirements from the local authority in order to ensure conformity with building plan approval requirements
DETAIL DESIGN
  1. Submit drawings to local authorities for approval
  2. Attend design and consultants meetings
  3. Prepare specifications for the works and agree construction quality standards with other consultants
  4. Coordinate services and prepare necessary services coordination drawings
  5. Check cost estimate with the other consultants and adjust documents if necessary to remain within budget
  6. Provide working drawings to the other consultants for preparation of procurement documentation
  7. Liaise, cooperate and provide necessary information to the principal consultant, principal agent and the other consultants
  8. Assist with evaluation of tenders
  9. Assist with the preparation of contract documentation for signature
  10. Assess samples and products for compliance and design intent
DOCUMENTATION

  5. Inspect the works for conformity to contract documentation
  6. Clarify details and descriptions during construction as required
  7. Receive, comment and approve interim payment valuations
  8. Witness and review all tests and mock-ups carried out both on and off the site
  9. Check and approve subcontract shop drawings for design intent compliance
  10. Update and issue the drawings register
  11. Issue contract instructions as and when required
  12. Review and comment on operations and maintenance manuals, guarantees, certificates and warranties
  13. Inspect the works and issue practical completion and defects lists
  14. Assist in obtaining statutory certificates
CLOSE OUT
  1. Inspect and verify rectification of defects
  2. Receive comment and approve relevant payment valuations and completion certificates
  3. Prepare and procure operations and maintenance manuals, guarantees and warranties
  4. Prepare and/or procure as-built drawings and documentation
